The Rose Valley
|
Specialists presume, that the cool nights at end of May and beginning of
June, the bright, scorching sun during day time, the high humidity during
the rose-picking season, as well as the characteristics of the soil itself -
they all perhaps are the reason for the appearance and magical existence of
the Bulgarian phenomenon Roza Damacena Mili in the gorgeous Rose Valley. For
more than 330 years that fragrant flower,

originating from the ancient
Persian lands, occupies the valley between the Balkan range and the Sredna
gora mountain, and determinates for ever this place as the best one in the
world for growing of the oil-producing roses. At present, 75% from the world
rose-oil export for the perfume industry is coming from Bulgaria. The
Kazanlak valley is also known as the Valley of the Thracian kings. There are
about 1800 tumuli in the region, dating back to end of 5th c. B.C. Joining
this tour you will get acquainted with all rituals related to the
rose-picking and rose-production of the famous Bulgarian rose oil, 1 gram of
which you will take and bring back to your country.
Day 1
Arrival at Sofia airport. Meeting and transfer to the hotel. Brief
sightseeing tour of the city center. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2
After breakfast, visit of the National Historic Museum. Walk in the Vitosha
mountain. In the afternoon continue to Kazanlak. Beginning of the program
“The Songs and Dances in the Rose valley”. 18.00 – Meeting and accommodation
in “Palace” hotel complex20.00 – Welcome Gala dinner with folk program21.00
– Official opening of the Rose festival and Coronation of the Rose Queen
Day 3
09.00 – Breakfast10.00 – Visit of the Ethnographical complex “Kulata”10.45 –
Visit of the Thracian tomb (UNESCO site, included in the World Monument
List)14.30 – Visit of the Rose Museum20.00 – Dinner.
Day 4
08.30 – Breakfast09.15 – Departure to the rose massifs10.00 - Rose-picking
and rose-production in the rose gardens12.00 – Participation in the Carnival
procession13.00 – Gala dinner – barbeque with folk program with a special
gift for each participant 19.30 – Dinner.
Day 5
08.30 – BreakfastYou may use your free time in the morning to join a
training course, learning the first steps of the Bulgarian national dances,
something more about the specific features of the Bulgarian folklore –
instruments, songs, and dances16.00 – Coffee break with a classical music
concert20.00 – Dinner.
Day 6
Breakfast. Departure to Veliko Tarnovo. On the way stop to see the Memorial
Shipka church. Continue to Etara (an unique open-air ethnographical museum,
where you can see how handicrafts workshops used to work two centuries ago
on the basis of water power). Visit of Dryanovo monastery. Continue to
Veliko Tarnovo (the Medieval capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom).
Accommodation in the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7
After breakfast, sightseeing of the architectural and historical reserve
Arbanassi with its Renaissance churches and stone houses – one of the most
attractive Bulgarian villages, situated on a high plateau above the ancient
capital. Sightseeing tour of Veliko Tarnovo - the Tzarevetz hill, the
fortress walls, the Memorial Church. Visit of the Preobrajenski monastery (built
in the XI c., the monastery played an important role in the spiritual and
cultural life of the capital Tarnovgrad). In the evening you may join the
“Sound and Light” show. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8
Breakfast. Departure back to Sofia. Accommodation in hotel in Sofia. Free
time for rest. Gala dinner with folk program in the “Chevermeto” restaurant.
Day 9
Farewell Bulgaria! We hope to see you again in our hospitable country!
